Halcyon Star is a hypothetical indie video game set in a far off galaxy. The story follows a girl named Eden, one of the last humans in existence.

All pixel art animations were created in Aseprite, a software made specifically for creating such work. These animations were then imported into video editors like CapCut and various Adobe products to create simulated game-play.

Despite the website attributing different aspects of the game’s creation to various people, this is mainly a solo project. Including false developers was to demonstrate how these people would be represented if the game was a real product.

There were some difficulties in creating the video elements of this project. Originally, I was going to use RPG Maker MZ to create video game footage. Despite what I had found while doing research into the topic, the program didn’t properly support the style of game I wanted to produce: a 2D action-adventure platformer.

Thus, I created all the visuals in frame by frame animation on Aseprite. While it may have been more arduous, I prefer the control I had over the visuals.

Prior to the final cover art, there were various ideas for its composition.
